Innovative Dow BLUEWAVE™ technology to promote sustainability

Dow BLUEWAVE Technology
The launch of the advanced BlueWave technology facility at Dows site in Lauterbourg, France, is a new milestone in the France packaging industry.

The merged potency of this facility is a fresh example of our ongoing work towards recycling, innovation, and sustainability. The new production line significantly contributes to a wide range of paper packaging products, enabling the design of items that are suitable for recyclability and utilize minimal resources through creative barrier coating applications.

Bluewave technology is a different, patented, and proprietary mechanical-powered dispersion technology established by R&D at Dow. It helps our production facilities and research teams to expand polymer into the water, which shows an aqueous dispersion outcome. This is alike solvent-based polymers, primarily more cost-effective. The mechanical dispersion technique needs modified polymers before dispersion in the water, which leads to the altered resin attributes and increases cost.

The bluewave technology process creates a waterborne dispersion without disturbing the resins state and secures the excellence of the polymer material. Bluewave technology allows several polymers to participate as a liquid solution and disperse in water. This creative approach generates an ultra-thin safe lining that provides exceptional food and flavor retention, corrosion protection, flexibility, and adhesion.

The brilliant waterborne dispersion enables food and beverage brand owners to utilize their existing large-scale packaging infrastructure to experience the functional benefit of the bluewave technology. The robust barrier coatings for paper packaging exemplify the innovative motive and introduction of the bluewave technology, supporting the improvement in the recycling volume of paper products, mainly for food interaction.

The RHOBARR™ 320 barrier dispersion complements the positive change that an innovation can perform on the sustainability of consumer products. Its a first-ever aqueous barrier coating introduced mainly for paper applications and for one specific material France created at the new Dow lauterbourg bluewave technology facility.
