Axchem Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam, dedicated to chemicals for India’s pulp and paper industry.
The company’s MD, Rajesh Chhabra, emphasized that this represents its largest investment in India to date, aimed at reinforcing local production and enhancing resilience. This plant is designed to tackle critical challenges prevalent across domestic paper manufacturers ranging from raw material variability and cost pressures to stringent environmental norms.
The facility will locally produce a diverse range of additives, including retention and drainage aids, scale inhibitors, coating agents, defoamers, strength additives, and specialized formulations like AXFLOC® and AXCONTROL®. By manufacturing locally, the firm aims to mitigate import dependency, stabilize supply chains, and offer cost-effective solutions.
Advanced production techniques and economies of scale are expected to reduce operational costs, while eco-friendly formulations and waste-management systems will support mills in achieving compliance with environmental regulations. As a result, manufacturers can expect improved process consistency, fewer interruptions due to scaling, and greater energy efficiency .
The Visakhapatnam plant will serve diverse pulp and paper segments including packaging paper, tissue, and specialty grades by providing tailored chemical solutions suited to India’s unique fibre mix (hardwood, bamboo, agricultural residues). With this upgrade, Axchem aims to enhance quality control and production reliability across the board.
Looking ahead, Axchem plans to use its global R&D pedigree to launch advanced water treatment and sustainability technologies such as AXPERSE® and deploy cloud-based monitoring tools. The new facility is also set for future expansion to meet evolving market demand
