SafeBat Project Marks Progress with Successful Coating Trial

Successful Coating Demonstration Marks Progress in SafeBat Project for Sustainable Battery Materials.

Recently we have had the pleasure of welcoming researchers from Mid Sweden University to our pilot facilities in Säffle, where a successful coating trial was carried out.

In this trial, innovative materials from Nouryon Pulp and Performance Chemicals AB were incorporated into the coating formula on paper substrates. The coated materials will later be used in battery applications.

This work is part of SafeBat, a two-year project led by Mid Sweden University and funded by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation, with UMV and Nouryon as partners. The project aims to advance sustainable energy storage technologies by developing paper-based electrodes as alternatives to conventional plastic materials – addressing environmental, safety, and production challenges in lithium-ion batteries.

We are proud to contribute with our coating expertise and pilot facilities to a project that pushes the boundaries for sustainability and innovation in the battery value chain.
