The new end-of-line system wraps product stacks in sustainable kraft paper, seals and labels them, and passes them on to palletising without manual handling
MBO, the postpress specialist and part of the Komori Group, today introduces WrapXi, an automated system for paper-based end-of-line packaging. WrapXi takes a stack of finished products, wraps it in kraft paper, seals it with paper tape, labels it and sends it on to the pallet. It is designed for printers, finishers and other producers whose output still has to be packed by hand before it can ship.
What WrapXi changes for customers
Presses, saddle-stichers and binders have become fast and highly automated, but at the end of many lines an operator still squares each stack, wraps it, tapes it and lifts it onto a pallet. WrapXi removes that work. Staff can move to tasks that add more value, and the strain of repetitive packing and lifting disappears.
Packing also stops holding back the rest of the line. WrapXi adapts to how the line delivers: it accepts stacks lengthwise or crosswise, keeps saddle-stitched or slippery brochures in place, wraps two-up and three-up production as one package and cuts the paper to each job’s width.
Taking packing off the operator’s hands also takes away some of the heaviest work in the plant. The machine moves, wraps, closes and passes on each stack, so operators no longer lift and turn heavy stacks shift after shift. This reduces the risk of strain injuries and makes end-of-line positions easier to fill.
WrapXi also replaces plastic film and shrink wrap with paper. Each package is wrapped in kraft paper and sealed with paper tape, so it can go into the paper recycling stream as a whole. This helps printers and producers respond to their own customers, who increasingly ask for plastic-free packaging.
MBO stays the single partner throughout. It supplies approved consumables, provides installation, training, maintenance, remote diagnostics and software updates, and tests original products to prepare a business case for each line before a project starts.
“Our customers have invested in fast, automated presses and finishing lines, yet many still pack the finished product by hand,” said Stefan Schülling, Managing Director at MBO Postpress Solutions GmbH. “WrapXi closes that gap. It takes over the last step on the line, uses paper instead of plastic, and can grow with the customer from a single packing station to a complete end-of-line solution. A product is not finished until it is wrapped.”
